Obituary of Shiva B. Mahabir

Shiva Bagwan Mahabir, 40, passed away unexpectedly at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City, NY, on March 18, 2024.  He was born on November 24, 1983 in Dearborn Heights, MI to Kamal and Wilhelmina [Sarmiento] Mahabir.

The most gifted fighter his circle knew, he was a practitioner who was both a competitor and instructor in multiple martial arts including Submission Grappling and MMA.  Though he trained hard, his talents came naturally. The fondest memories those he loved recall are the times spent together on the mats.

Shiva was a beloved son to Wilhelmina Mahabir; treasured brother to Charles (Patricia) Mahabir and Meena Mahabir; as well as an esteemed fellow martial artist to many in the metro Detroit area and Northern Kentucky.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at St. Timothy Parish, 10272 US-42, Union, KY 41091. The family will receive guests from 9:00 AM until shortly before the Mass Of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM (also at the church). Directly following Mass, Shiva will be laid to rest comfortably at Union Rice Cemetery, Union, KY.
