Obituary of George Edward Weber

George Edward Weber, 68, of Ryland Heights, went to his eternal home on January 28, 2024.  Born on May 11, 1955 in Akron, OH, he was the son of Robert Dale Weber and Virginia “Ginger” Irene [Putnam] Weber.

George was a cherished husband to Dixie [Mardis] Weber; beloved and proud dad to Christy Justice, Kelsey Weber, Jacob Weber, Hunter Weber and Mason Weber; step-dad to Robert “Bobby” Schaffer; a brother to Betty Weber; and a treasured grandpa to Gabby Schaffer, Luke Schaffer, Preston Justice, Cooper Justice, and Ainsley Justice; as well as a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews, and a revered colleague, leader and friend.  He will also be missed by new furry family member Finn. Preceding George in death are his parents; his brother Robert “Bobby” Weber; as well as his dog Max.

Simply put, George lived for others.  From Olive Garden to First Watch to Delta Sky Club, he spent many years managing teams in food service and hospitality. This was not just a career for George though—it was literally everything of which he was made. He not only cared for his guests but for his colleagues and his loved ones. He would plan parties and outings for his employees; haul his portable drive-in movie theater (complete with popcorn machine, cotton candy machine and massive sound system) to the parking lot of his family’s church, First Church of God; he would purchase a plane ticket for someone in need who he encountered at work. He was exceedingly generous and demonstrative in wanting people to know they were appreciated and looked after.  George was a snappy and sharp dresser. He worked hard to be able to provide and have others enjoy the finer things in life.  Whether four-wheeling at their home or spending a morning out to breakfast, to sharing his holiday cocoa bar, George relished most the time with his family and those he cared for. He loved any and all music whether secular or sacred, especially classic R&B and funk artists like Earth, Wind and Fire, rock bands like KISS, and Christian music like The Ball Family. 

George was named in honor of his uncle, George Everett Weber, who was the recipient of a Purple Heart during service to his country in World War II.  Some might consider this to be something difficult to live up to.  But George effortlessly (although in a different way), assumed the altruistic mantle of his namesake; continually serving others. We will miss his huge heart and also his signature sarcastic sense of humor coupled with his perpetual pranks and jokes (although maybe just a little less so than his heart).

You are invited to come share stories and memories of George on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY, 41051 from 10:00 AM until shortly before the time of the funeral service at 12:00 PM, also at the funeral home.  Immediately following, George will be laid to rest comfortably at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 5336 Old Taylor Mill Rd, Covington, KY 41015. Memorial donations to honor George can be made directly to the family online  or in person at the day of services. All contributions will go to the George Weber Memorial Fund.
