Obituary of James Henry Porter

James Henry Porter, machine operator James Henry Porter had a strong sense of pride. "He took pride in being the provider for his family," said Mr. Porter's daughter, Sherry Mullins of Independence. "He believed in doing a job right the first time so you had pride in what you do." Mr. Porter, 63, of Walton, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital. He was a machine operator for Core Flex Co. Mr. Porter was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Wesleyan Christian Church. He was a member of the Good Guys Club of Walton and Bradford Masonic Lodge No. 123. "When he was growing up, he had perfect attendance in Sunday School for eight years straight," said his daughter. "The Good Guys Club he belonged to did a lot of things for the community. Around Christmas time, for instance, they collected food and toys and took them to needy families." Mr. Porter's hobbies included working on cars. "He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a practical joker," his daughter said. "He loved spending time with his six grandchildren. He took a lot of pride in them." Mr. Porter's grandchildren are Derek, Naomi and Jasmine Mullins and Elizabeth, James E. II and Katherine Porter. Other survivors include Mr. Porter's wife, Arlene W. Porter; a son, James E. Porter of Crittenden; his parents, James A. and Thelma D. Porter of Independence; a brother, John F. Porter of Homassa, Fla., and a sister, Kellie Willoughby of Burlington. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home in Walton. Burial is in Walton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Foundation, 745 W.
