We are really gonna miss you grandpa. Things were never dull when you were around. I've never met anyone that had as many life experiences as you. If I could live half the life and see half the things you did then I would be completely fulfilled. You were an amazing man. My family and I will never forget you. Love, Scott, Michele, Desiree, and Scotty

From talking to Uncle Sam I think he was expecting this but I praise God that he didn't have to suffer through a long illness. He lived,(boy did he live)a full and exciting life and he was a great uncle. I hope Sam and mom (Mary Howard Cook) are together having a great reunion.

All i can say is, Jeff's birthday parties will never be the same. Sam was the entertainment. Everyone loved hearing him tell his stories and the facial expressions that went with them. I will miss all the emails we always sent to each other. I am glad he was here at home in Walton and I know mom(Littley) was too. You will be missed , but I know that our Heavenly Father has welcomed you with open arms. I love you and miss you. Your niece, Margaret Ann

Oh what to say about my uncle Sam...I was very young when my grandparents passed away, so all I remember most of the time is my mom's brothers and sisters..Sam was a great uncle and a very good friend..We both love out technological devices (computers and such) and would take many trips to Best Buy and just walk the store. Sam came from SD and watched me play football my freshman year of high school in !986..I will always remeber that because he told me he had to make it, so he could see me play..I will not be able to make this weekend, but my prayers are with Mothers family (June) this upcoming weekend, but I will never forget him, he is always with me and I will always smile when I think of our memories of Sam..What a great guy, he finshed his life cycle back where he started life..All I can Say What a Guy Kevin Acra June Acra(youngest Son)

My Dad always spoke fondly of Sam. When Sam would visit my grandparents (Virginia and Stanley) in Walton, my Dad would spend time with him and listen intently to his exciting escapades and unique opinions. Like my Dad, Sam was definitely a free spirit and willing to explore the world in ways far removed from his upbringing. Unfortunately, it seems that Sam's sense of exploration and personal freedom created distance between him and his family and friends. Profoundly, Sam's recent return to Walton and his rejuvenated bonds with his family seem to have been a recognition of what is truly important in life. Like my Grandmother once told me, "All you take with you are the bonds you've built with family and friends". Thank God Sam had this realization and closure in his life before he passed on.

Sam was my uncle, and a good one at that. I wish and hope that I can have the will and good health as Sam did to do the things he wanted to do when he did them, like pack up and move from Florida to Illinois as Sam did! My future wife at the time and I flew down to Florida and helped Sam and Sissy pack everthing into a 27foot U-Haul and car trailer, and drove 22 hours straight thru! WHAT A TRIP! Yes she still merried me. But it was a great time to get to know a uncle that I saw maybe once a year before that. He was a good man, and a true believer in his 101 Airborne, if you knew Sam you knew the hat! Screaming Eagles! Don't forget the Veterans of this country, cause Sam never did. He loved them and his country. I am truly sorry for the lost of a good Man, Father, Grandfather,Brother and Uncle, I am also sorry that I will not be able to make to his memoral, I will miss it and him. My Dad I met him many years ago The first face I ever knew A bond was formed right then and there Our love was new and true He taught me how to ride my bike He taught me how to play But best of all he taught me how To love him every day His face was warm and gentle His eyes were sad and blue His heart was full of kindness The kindest man I ever knew He had his little sayings That would make you laugh and smile He picked you up when you were down And made troubles fade a while He helped me when I needed him When the whole world turned away He gave me strength to face the world And fight another day I love him now as ever I love him deep and true He made me feel so special He made every day feel new He was strong and brave He was wise and calm No better man could fall He showed us how to keep our faith An inspiration to us all If you met him you would love him If you knew him you were blessed If he loved you, you were honored Cause you were loved by the very best I love and miss you Daddy Your Daughter, Susie

With Sam's passing, Walton has lost one of its nicest guys and I've lost a very, very dear friend. Sam was blessed with intelligence, an inquiring mind, a wonderful personality, a great smile and that endearing Howard sense of humor. He was, quite simply, one heck of a guy and I will miss him terribly.
