Obituary of Derek Rawls

Derek Rawls, age 24, of Independence, died Friday, March 11, 2011 at his residence. He was a painter (former co-owner of M & D Painting), a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, and a graduate of Simon Kenton High School. Derek was described as "someone who was loved by everyone and would give you the shirt off his back". He enjoyed sports and loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his mother, Sherry McDonald of Florence; father, Mark Rawls of Walton; step-mother, Vanessa Rawls of Walton; step-father, Chris McDonald of Independence; twin sister, Erika Rawls of Independence; sister, Taylor Gail McDonald of Florence; brothers, Jordan Rawls and Keifer Mulberry of Walton; grandparents, Ed and Alice Rawls of Independence, John and Allie Carney of Union, Willard Peters of Bath County, KY, and Carole Eaton of Independence; uncle, Temple Neace; nephew, Brayden Storm Schoborg; fiancee', Katessa Simmons; and many cousins and extended family. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Chambers and Grubbs in Independence. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Independence Cemetery.
