I am a mother and I can only imagine what you are going through. I can't bear the thought of losing one of my kids. My heart goes out to your family. I have a son who is Derek's age and when I saw this I thought to myself.... I am sure they went to school together. What a terrible loss. May God be at your side through this very difficult time.

I used to love to hear Derek imitate a character from Wayne's World saying, "Party on Garth." He was probably in middle school at that time, but he had the voice down perfectly! It made me laugh every time he said it. What I really liked most hearing him say is "I love you Brenda." He always did before he left our house or over the phone. Of course, I always told him that I loved him too.
