Obituary of Bernice Best

Bernice Ann (McMurtry) Best, age 74, of Independence, KY passed at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2012. A native of Washington County, she was born February 6,, 1938 to Loraine and the late Delbert R. McMurtry. She was married to Alton G. Best of Independence, KY. She was a graduate of Northern Kentucky University and taught Kindergarten for 17 years. Mrs. Best had a new Math instructional concept published in the McGraw-Hill K-8 Mathematics Activity Book and was given a certificate of "Outstanding Contribution to KY Children and Devotion to Education" in 1990. Bernice was also awarded "Outstanding Student in Elementary Education" from NKU. She was a member of Walton United Methodist Church and initiated the United Methodist Women's group in 1957. She is survived by a son, James & daughter-in-law Ray Anne Best, daughter Dr. Gay Ann & husband John Lafferty, grandsons, Scott & Jared Best. She is also survived by her husband and mother. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 10, 2012 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence. The funeral service will be Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 10:00am also at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest Independence Cemetery.
