Obituary of Walter Shettler

Reverend Walter Robert Shettler, Sr., age 87, of Erlanger, went home to be with the Lord Friday, September 28, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood. He attended Union College, New York and graduated from Georgetown College, Georgetown, KY and Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville, KY. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He was Pastor Emeritus at Big Bone Baptist Church in Union and formerly pastored several churches around Northern Kentucky including Pleasant Ridge Baptist in Pleasant Ridge, Piner Baptist in Piner, Trinity Baptist in Newport, First Baptist Church of Covington, Calvary Baptist in Maysville, and Big Bone Baptist. Brother Shettler was ordained on July 11, 1948 and also formerly served as a Moderator for the Northern KY Baptist Association, and as a Board Member for Cedarmore Baptist Assembly. Survivors include his wife (of 66 years) Eliza Read Crow Shettler; daughter, Lucy (George) Shettler Crosby of Hickory, NC; son, Rev. Dr. Walter Robert (Connie Davis) Shettler, Jr., of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Dr. Cate Crosby, Christian (Jennifer) Crosby, Elizabeth Read (Frank) McCormack, and Dr. Kelly Shettler (Dr. Forrest) Crabtree; great grandchildren, Hosea Crosby, Morgan Crosby, McIntyre Crabtree, Larkin McCormack, Parker Crabtree and Anna Read McCormack. Visitation will be Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 3 to 5PM at Big Bone Baptist Church, 11036 Big Bone Church Rd, Union, KY 41091 and also Monday from 10-11AM. Funeral services will be Monday at 11AM at the church with his son, Rev. Dr. Robert Shettler Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Big Bone Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials may be made to the Big Bone Baptist Church Building Fund.
