Obituary of Karen Kay Yates
Karen Kay (Hyde) Yates, age 64, of Crittenden, Kentucky passed away on November 21, 2024 at the Hospice care of St. Elizabeth. Her family gently attending to her earthly body while sharing stories of loving memories with quiet smiles.
Karen was the daughter of Stanley and Delores Hyde. Sister of five. She was brought up in Northern Kentucky. Karen was family oriented. Spending time with her brothers and sisters, many friends were introduced and shared. In her teenage years, she met a man, Donald Yates, whom she would marry and build a life with.
Karen was a concentrated woman. She found interests that she would pour herself into. She enjoyed her routine trips to the nail salon where her creativity and self-care was expressed in a variety of colors- especially purple! She enjoyed shopping for purple outfits and decorating her home with the color, down to her dishware. Her grandchildren even referred to her as “Purple Mamaw”. Karen was a collector of snow babies. Many were gifts that she received from her children and loved ones over the years. Each was special to her. Karen was a friend to many. Her friendly demeanor spilled into her work in customer service and accompanied her to family get togethers. She enjoyed holidays with family and playing cards, especially a game of euchre.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her siblings; Tina Ballard and Steve Hyde, and her best bud, Logan- her 18-year-old dog who passed early this year.
Left on earth to mourn her loss and keep her memory are Donnie Yates-husband of 46 years who cared for her through thick and thin, her children; Nick Yates, Sarah (Stanley) Clayton, Jarret (Jessica) Yates, and Clinton (Chelsea) Yates, her grandchildren; Skylin, Reese, Christian, Bently, Caid, Cali Yates, Shayla, and Ally Halsey, and her siblings; Rosemary Gordon, Wayne (Janet) Hyde, and Joyce Morgan.
Karen will be surrounded by her loving family and friends for a memorial service in her honor at a later date.
