Obituary of Homer Kenneth Shumate, Jr.
Homer Kenneth Shumate, Jr., passed away Thursday, October 10, 2024, just shy of his 94th birthday, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, KY. He was a retired U.S. Postal Clerk in Cincinnati, OH and a U.S. Army Paratrooper Veteran. Homer loved sports, especially listening to his beloved Cincinnati Reds on his transistor radio and watching horse racing. Even more so, he loved watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events (he almost never missed a game). Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Homer K. Shumate, Sr. and Nancy G. McCoy Shumate, his loving wife (of 60 years), JoAnn Shumate, and his grandson, Alec James Losey. He is survived by his children, Tammy Wong (Patrick), Cindy Fogle (Jeff), Vicki Losey (Doug), and Todd Shumate (Molly); grandchildren, Ryan Fogle (Jen), Brady Fogle, Cameron Fogle (Ashley), Jessica Linne (Brett), Sarah Winters (Jon), Ryan Wong (Dai), Aidyn Glenn (Devin), Adair Dooley (Jarrett), Alexa Losey, Zach Shumate, And Quinn Shumate; and great grandchildren, Knox, Remington, and Palmer Fogle; Parker and Zoey Linne; Addi and Landon Winters; Aspen Glenn; and Chayse and Blake Dooley. The visitation for Homer will be Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 10 am to 12 noon with his funeral service immediately following at noon at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. His committal service with military honors will be at Floral Hills Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
