Obituary of Carol Wray Bagby Chapman
Carol Wray Chapman née Bagby, 86, of Demossville, KY, hung up her stethoscope and traded her white cap for heavenly garments on May 18, 2024. Born on March 9, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Edward Francis Bagby, Jr. and Lena Mae [Culbertson] Bagby.
A new wife and mother, Carol sought her GED. Called to serve, she then underwent vocational training at the William Booth Memorial Hospital School For Practical Nursing. She worked as an LPN in the ER, ICU, and also in long-term care. She later taught nurse’s aide training for aspiring CNAs at several local high schools. While not a veteran herself, Carol became a Gold Star Mother when her son David passed away in the service of his country aboard the USS Trenton LPD14 in Barcelona, Spain. Amidst the duties of her profession and the commitment to her family, Carol somehow found time to enjoy sewing, quilting, growing flowers and a few vegetables. She also adored singing. This tremendous woman will be remembered in the hearts of so many.
Carol was greeted in Glory by her son David Mark Chapman, USN, ENFA; her husband Robert William Chapman; her parents; and her brother Donel Keith Bagby, USN Veteran.
She was the beloved mother to Major Melinda Sue Krawczyk Mills, USAF, Res, Retired and Daniel Matthew Chapman; mother-in-law to SMSgt. John Edwin Mills, USAF, Retired; dear grandmother to Kristen Lea Krawczyk, Justin Edward Krawczyk, Tina (Jason) Raleigh, Crystal Chapman; great-grandmother to Leviathan Yorio Krawczyk, Christian Raleigh, Maxton Raleigh, Lincoln Raleigh; step-grandmother to Angie Woodall, Jeremy Mills, Siobhan (Hugo) Vasquez, and step-great-grandmother to Joselyn Tovar, Rosie Tovar, Alondra Vasquez and Orlando Vasquez.
