Obituary of Larry C. Miles, Sr.
It is with bittersweet emotion that we announce the transition of Larry Carter Miles, Sr., of Erlanger, KY, who was celebrated home into the arms of his Lord and Savior on May 12, 2024. Larry was born on June 24, 1942 in Cincinnati, OH and raised in Newport, KY.
Captain of the football team and inductee into the Athletic Hall Of Fame, Larry graduated from Newport High School. He was also a United States Air Force veteran. Later on in life and in between working full-time and also being a full-time family man, he went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Northern Kentucky University. While it is evident Larry was exceedingly industrious; possessing an iron-clad work ethic, he did enjoy fun times, mostly by supporting his beloved Cincinnati Bengals. He was a season ticket holder since 1970.
A lot of folks talk about caring for people during the span of their lives. Larry actually did it. A deacon and trustee at his home church Robbins St. Christian, he was also an active member of the congregation at Corinthian Baptist. He was the consummate provider for his family, working for American Airlines and TANK. Standing up for his colleagues in the airline industry, he also served as representative for the Transport Workers Union of America (TWU).
Larry was the adored husband of 61 years to Ethel “Bunny” Miles; devoted dad to Melvin (Carol) Miles, Larry (Tracy) Miles, Jr., Roman Miles, and Latrese (Adam) Davis; treasured brother to Kim Carter and Thomas Carter; a treasured “Papal” to 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; as well as dear friend to many, including lifelong friend Melvin Johnson.
Preceding Larry in death are his parents, his eldest sister Margaret Carter, sister Patricia Lowe, sister Karen Carter Purry, and sister Mary Christine Harris.
Please come to the visitation which will be held for Larry on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Corinthian Baptist Church, 7th and Saratoga St. Newport, KY 41071. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy he leaves behind from 10:00 AM until shortly before the time of the service of love and remembrance at 12:00 PM (also at the church on Friday). Directly following the funeral, Larry will be laid to rest gently and comfortably with full military honors near the arms of his kinfolk at Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, KY. Memorial donations in Larry’s honor may be made online to Kenton County Animal Services.
