Obituary of Tom McMillan
Charles Thomas (better known as Tom) McMillan, 75, of Covington, KY, passed away on Friday, April 5th, 2024. The son of the late Russell and Lavon (Butler) McMillan, Tom was born in Covington, KY on November 11, 1948. He graduated from Newport High School in 1966 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He passed down the importance of respecting the flag and those who served. He retired from Cincinnati Bell after many years of service and most recently retired from First Class Cleaning which he co-owned and operated.
Tom was a former member and served as Chairman of the Board at Walton United Methodist Church. He was a loving father and a proud papaw to his five granddaughters. Although Tom loved watching most sports, especially UK basketball, his real passion was playing golf whenever he got the chance.
Along with Tom’s parents Russell and Lavon McMillan, he was preceded in death by his siblings Carl McMillan, Lloyd McMillan, Joyce Harris, and Sharyn Thompson.
Tom will be missed dearly by his beloved family surviving him; Daughter, Wendy (Pat) Powers; Son, Mike McMillan; Former wife and friend, Sandy McMillan; Brothers, Don McMillan, Russell McMillan Jr. (Gail); Sisters, Marlene Martin, Doris Burnette; Granddaughters, Destiny McMillan, Morgan Powers, Hannah Powers, Roey Powers, Sydnee McMillan; Daughter-in-love, Jenny Ball; his many nieces and nephews, and his very close friends, Rich and Susan Dixon and their family.
A memorial service, including military honors, will be held for Tom on Saturday, April 13th at 11 AM with a celebration of life to follow between 12 PM and 2 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY, 41051.
