Obituary of Ruth Evelyn Maynard

My life may not be roses but still I′m gonna be alright

Long as I got my Savior by my side

He freed me from the heavy chains that had bound my broken heart

I′m on my way to Heaven so I can't be stayin' long.

Ruth Evelyn [Chapman] Maynard, 87, departed from Earth on the evening of March 10, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospice, Edgewood, KY. Born on August 9^th, 1936 in Owen County, KY, she was the daughter of Joseph Chapman and Noma [Spillman] Chapman.

Ruth was raised in Owen County and graduated from Owen County High School. On a blind date to a demolition derby, she met the love of her life, Gordon. Three weeks later they married and began their life and their family together.  She loved to read, watch Gunsmoke and cheer on the UK Wildcats. The tunes of Hank Williams, Elvis and Dwight Yoakam could always be heard on Ruth’s radio. Ruth worked as a teller at Federal Reserve Bank for a time and then in the cafeteria at both Ryle and Boone County High School. Strong-willed and independent, Ruth’s family will miss her loving heart, indomitable spirit, and her special blackberry jam cake. She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her and most especially by those lucky enough to be loved by her.

She adored her children Mickey (Amy) Maynard and Bradley “Brad” (Emily) Maynard. She was a precious grandma and “memo” to Morgan (Taylor) Maynard, Jenna (Tyler) Stamper, Aaron Maynard, Katie Adams, Ethan Maynard and Sarah Maynard.  Ruth was a cherished wife to Gordon Maynard, who preceded her in death. Additionally, those who have passed on before are her parents and her sister Betty Jo Jividen. 

Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy Ruth leaves behind. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 10:00 AM until shortly before the time of the funeral ceremony at 12:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 8461 Dixie Hwy, Florence, KY 41042.  Directly following the funeral, Ruth will be laid to rest comfortably at Union-Rice Cemetery, Union, KY.
