Obituary of Lonnie Lee Worley

Lonnie Lee Worley, 81, of Independence, KY, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at home surrounded by family. The son of the late Hobert Dewey Worley and Dorothy Mae {Godsey} Worley, Lonnie was born in Stearns, KY, on September 10, 1942. He proudly served in the United States Army and retired from GM after 28 years of service. He married the love of his life, Mary {Miller} on April 29, 1966.  

During his time in the service, he picked up boxing as a hobby. An avid outdoorsman, Lonnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He had the greatest garden that would produce enough fruits and vegetables to feed an entire army.  Lonnie most importantly loved spending time with his family and teaching his grandchildren life skills such as fishing and hunting.   

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Mary Worley; daughters Sandy (Gary) Middendorf, Cynthia (Dennis) Glass, and Lisa (Adam) Fossitt; grandchildren Branden, Krista (Alex), Taylor (Taylor), Logan, Dylan, Lindsey (Matthew), Avery (Destiny), and Lilly (Braden); great-grandchildren Roman, Serana, Atlas, Emmett, and Sadie Rose; and siblings Bonnie Lovely, Steve “Buzzy” Worley, Sharon Woolard, Lula Strunk, Willard Worley, and Carlon Worley. 

In addition to his parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by his sister Carol Jo Worley. 

Visitation will be held between 10 AM and 12 PM with a funeral service to immediately follow at 12 PM on Friday, December 8th at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051. Lonnie will be laid to rest at Independence Cemetery following services.
