Obituary of William R. Frey

William Richard Frey of Florence, age 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Legacy Living Florence. He was born in Moundsville, W.V. on September 9, 1929, to the late Bertha {McWhorter} and William Robert Frey.  Bill is a veteran  having proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He retired from the Federal Aviation Administration as an Electronics Technician.  Bill favored the simple things in life and was a rather quiet man  with an ornery streak. He liked to spend his spare time reading, going fishing, and going for long walks. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing golf,  being a HAM radio operator and was a 60+ year member of the Masonic Lodge. After he retired, he even worked part time at the Boone County golf courses. Bill had a great sense of humor and loved kids. He was a father, brother, and Pap who will be deeply missed by those who loved him.

He is survived by his loving children, Elizabeth (Douglas) Campbell, Richard (Sandy) Frey, Vicki Frey, Steven Frey, and Gary Frey; sister, Andrea Root; 10 beloved grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several other friends and relatives who will cherish his memory.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Josephine {Games} Frey; son, William “Randy” Frey; brothers, Donald and Charles Frey; and his granddaughter, Melissa Frey.

A gathering of friends will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at First Church of Christ, 6080 Camp Ernst Rd. Burlington, KY 41005. The memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM, at the church. Immediately following the memorial service, a committal service with full military honors will be held at KY Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, KY.
