Obituary of Denny Fields

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Dennis Edward Fields, better known to all who loved him as Denny, age 77, passed away unexpectedly after a brief but serious illness at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Edgewood, KY on September 11, 2023.  Born in Covington, KY on October 29, 1945, he was the son of Clarence and Mary (Tippitt) Fields.

Preceding Denny in death are his parents.  He is survived by his wife of forty-four years Barbara Fields; children Dwayne, Kelly, and Tracy; his siblings Kay, Cheryl (Bob), and Roy (Rosemary); his grandchildren Jordan, Brendan, and Samantha; as well as many nieces, nephews, other close extended family and a score of friends.

Denny was a graduate of the 1964 class of Simon Kenton High School. By trade, Denny was a truck mechanic nearly all his life.  But shop class was Denny’s soulcraft. Building and restoring cars wasn’t just his job, it was his passion. He shared that passion with his son Dwayne. Denny not only built cars; he raced them. Racing was everything. Whether it was a dirt track like the Florence Speedway or one made of asphalt for NASCAR, he was both driver and avid fan. Denny liked to listen to music (and sing along) while he worked.  He enjoyed many different artists but mostly liked rock ‘n roll and country. He was known to be a talker and a teller of tall tales. He loved spending time with his wife, Barb. They were childhood sweethearts who married later in life. Denny’s sudden departure is heartbreaking. This selfless, loving and helpful man will be deeply missed.  We only hope that up on that Heavenly beach, he is relaxing under a palm tree, watching the waves and pelicans.

Please help us celebrate Denny’s last lap. A visitation will be held at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY, 41051 on Thursday, September 14, 2023. The family will receive guests from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Denny will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Independence Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
