Obituary of Raymond "Ray" A. Proffitt
Raymond “Ray” A. Proffitt, 82, of Villa Hills, KY, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Coldspring Transitional Care Center. The son of the late John and Lillian {Setters} Proffitt, Ray was born in Visalia, KY, on January 13, 1941.
Ray graduated from Simon Kenton High School in 1959. He retired from Equitable Bag Company in Florence as the production manager after 30+ years of service and enjoyed his time spent as the Assistant Chief at the Villa Hills Police Department which was his overall favorite job position. In his spare time, Ray loved to play baseball, softball, golf, and bowling. He was known for being organized and enjoyed yardwork and painting.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 64 years, Betty {Cook} Proffitt; loving daughter Susan (Gregory) Davis; grandsons Bradley (Audrey), Drew (Jennifer), and Mark Davis; great-grandchildren Urban, Madison, Millicent, and Peyton Davis; brother Howard Leo (Viola) Profitt; sister-in-law Joyce Proffitt; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brother Russell Proffitt; half siblings Betty Scott, James Ford, and Clarence Phillips; and nephew, who was like a brother to him, Bobby Ford.
A visitation will be held between 12 PM and 1 PM on Friday, August 25th with a funeral service to immediately follow at 1 PM at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051. Ray will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Elizabeth Foundation Hospice Program by clicking here.
