Obituary of Dorothy Mae Howard Barnes
Dorothy Mae Howard Barnes, age 100, of Independence, KY, passed away Monday, August 14, 2023, at Rosedale Green in Covington, KY, where she had resided the last ten years. Recently, she celebrated her centennial (100th) birthday with a party at Rosedale Green with all of her family and several friends in attendance. She was a homemaker, a former member of Visalia Baptist Church, the Kenton County Homemakers, the Irish Rovers, the Utopia Club, and the Taylor Mill Senior Group. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, doing embroidery, ceramics, gardening, traveling, playing bingo, word search puzzles, and reading. She enjoyed collecting dolls, books, and other things. You might say she was a professional collector of “stuff”. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband (of 58 years), William “Bud” Barnes, in May of 2002, and brothers, Louis Howard and Jack Howard. Left to carry on her beloved legacy are her three children, Terry Barnes (Pam), Sandra Brewster, and Timothy Barnes (Linda); six grandchildren, Danny Barnes (Kris), Dennis Barnes (Kim), David Barnes, Darren Barnes (Shelly), Jennifer Powell (Troy), and Natalie Hehman (David); twelve great grandchildren, Langdon Barnes (Summer), Riley Barnes (Rachel), Michela Johnson (Mark), Keaton Barnes (Skye), Willow Barnes, Landrie Barnes, Trey Barnes, Brooke Barnes, Jimmy Noble, Avery Powell, Julia Powell, Kennedy Hehman, and Mason Hehman; and three great-great grandchildren, Arlyn Barnes, Maverick Barnes, and Scarlet Barnes. Visitation will be Sunday, August 20, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. with her funeral service immediately following at 4 p.m. at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051.
