Obituary of Emma Coleman Kavanaugh Scalf
Emma Coleman Kavanaugh Scalf of Independence, age 92, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on Sunday, July 30, 2023. She was born in Erlanger, KY on June 10, 1931, to the late Charles and Emma (Woulms) Coleman. Emma retired from Equitable Bag Company after 45 years. Family was most important to Emma. She had a caregiver’s heart and would help anyone that she could. She was a wonderful homemaker and a great country cook. She was one of the most selfless people you could ever meet. She instilled strong work ethics into her children and made sure they were always taken care of. She also loved chihuahua’s! Emma was a mother and mamaw who will be deeply missed by those who loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, RD Scalf, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Survivors include her loving children, Paula (Jimbo) Kavanaugh True, Linda (Thomas) Kavanaugh Purvis, Ronnie (Sherry) Scalf, and Danny Scalf; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; “her people”, Ray Lynn (Cindy) Coleman and Cardenis (Les) Carlisle; as well as several other friends and relatives who will cherish her memory.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Immediately following the service, Emma will be laid to rest next to her husband at Highland Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, KY.
