Obituary of Mary "Madeline" Ledford
Mary "Madeline" Ledford of Independence, age 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY. She was born in Coral Gables, FL on November 3, 1943, to the late Charlie and Mary Louise (Jennings) Cross. Madeline was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and retired as an Administrative Assistant for the CSX sales department. She kept herself busy caring for those she loved. She enjoyed playing Bunco with a group of friends, spending time working outside, and visiting with her daughter in Florida. Madeline always did more for others than she did for herself because that is the kind of person she was. She was loving and compassionate, as well as strong and independent. Madeline was a great mother and will be missed deeply by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Anthony Lynn Cross and Rhonda Ann Cross. She is survived by her loving daughter, Nicole (Greg Maggard) McMillan; her stepson, Trent Ledford; her niece and 2 nephews; several cousins; as well as other friends and extended family members who will cherish her memory.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Immediately following the service, Madeline will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeMossville, KY. Memorial donations can be made in her name to Villa Madonna Montessori, 2402 Amsterdam rd. Villa Hills, KY 41017, St. Anne Province Center, 5300 St. Anne dr. Melbourne, KY 41059, or to St. Elizabeth Foundation c/o Hospice Programs, 1 Medical Village Dr. Edgewood, KY 41017.
