Obituary of Barbara Maher
Barbara Maher, 61, of Union, KY, passed away all too soon on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Edgewood, KY, surrounded by her loving family.
Barb was born August 14, 1961. She was married to the love of her life, Joe Maher, in 1981 and lived in Latonia. A short time later they moved to Union, enjoying forty two wonderful years of marriage. Their union is an unforgettable example of love, strength, sacrifice, and perseverance to all who know them.
Barb started a career as a hairdresser, completing her cosmetology license. She decided to focus on family and stepped down from her career to raise her children. She was also a longtime member of St. Timothy Church in Union.
She traveled with family and friends far and wide in their RVs through the years - exploring local sites as well as week long excursions to other distant campgrounds.
Barb was known fondly for her recipes, dominating the family chili cookoff for years. She could always be found outside soaking up the sun on a beautiful day. She enjoyed a quiet afternoon in the front yard as much as a fire at the campsite. When indoors with family she indulged her competitiveness with card games.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents Orville and Margaret (née Rains) Wiles.
Her strong spirit lives on in her surviving family members; her husband Joe; her children Anthony (Jillian) Maher, Kevin (fiancé Michelle) Maher, and Julie (Brad) Steele; her grandchildren, Carter, Elaina, McKenzie, Charlee, and Owen; her brother, David (Marilyn) Wiles, and sister, Gail (Randy) Wallace; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, KY with funeral services to follow at 12:00 PM. Burial will be at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill, KY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org).
