Obituary of Kathleen "Tootsie" Benz Goetz
Kathleen “Tootsie” Benz Goetz of Morning View, age 92, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023, the feast day of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, while in the comfort of her own home and surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 29, 1931, in Covington, KY to the late Joseph and Marie Benz. She was a beloved wife for 61 years to the late Donald T. Goetz who passed away on June 17, exactly 9 years before Kathleen. She retired as a clerk for the KY State Troopers. She was also involved in Knights of Columbus, helped with church activities, was active in the Independence and Edgewood senior centers, and served as a secretary for the Saint Monica Society. Tootsie also worked as a librarian for a little while and had a passion for reading. She also enjoyed spending her time crocheting, shopping, playing cards, Bingo, and traveling with other retirees. Tootsie liked to keep herself busy, but where she loved spending the most time was with her beloved friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandma, and great grandma whose witty personality and big heart will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her sister, Joann Eisenman.
She is survived by her loving children, Mark (Deanna) Goetz, Andrew (Diane) Goetz, Donna Villasuso-Spain, and David Goetz; sister, Doris Hicks; beloved grandchildren, Donnie, Carla, Michael, Marty, Randy, Amy, Adam, Johnny, Aaron and Danielle; great-grandchildren, Owen, Rylan, Kensey, Moroni, Ruthie, Ellie, Isabelle, Corey, Betty Kathleen, and 1 on the way; as well as several other friends and relatives who will forever cherish her memory.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 5313 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM at the church. Immediately following the mass, Kathleen will be laid to rest at St. Cecilia Cemetery and a celebration of life will be held in the undercroft of the church.
