Obituary of H. Douglas Rouse
H. Douglas Rouse passed away peacefully on May 8, 2023 at his home in Florence, Ky. Doug was born a resident of Walton, Kentucky on September 17, 1939.
Doug is survived by his wife, Sandra Wainscott Rouse, sons Cameron, Cassidy (Lynn) and loving granddaughter Daphne. Doug is also survived by his brother-in-law Blaine Wainscott (Faye), his sister-in-law, Deborah Delph (Danny); brother-in-law David Stefek; his nephews, Robert Wainscott, Danny Scott Delph (Tina), Jarrod Delph (Jill), Jacob Delph, Zachary Hicks (Jenny), Nathan Hodges (Sarah) and his aunts, Naomi Spegal, and Pat Stein. Doug was predeceased by his uncle, David Peebles, sister, Beverly Jean Rouse, mother, Theora Peebles Locke, and father, Harold Rouse of Dayton.
After graduating from Walton Verona High School in 1957, Doug joined the U.S. Navy as an aviation mechanic on aircraft carriers throughout Europe and Asia. He then attended Eastern Kentucky University and graduated from University of Kentucky Law School in 1967. Doug practiced law for nearly 50 years, including a tenure as Assistant County Attorney in Carroll County and with firms Rouse, Bamberger, and Collins and Rouse, Skees, Wilson, and Dillon in Florence. Doug was a member of multiple professional organizations, including the Northern Kentucky Bar Association, where he was recognized as the 2003 “Distinguished Lawyer of the Year.”
Known for his generosity and inimitable sense of humor, Doug enjoyed an active social life. Among his interests, he served on the board of directors for the annual “Bean Bash” fundraiser and could be found at any gathering by following the sound of laughter.
Doug’s “Celebration of Life” will be on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the Burlington Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:30am, and the service immediately after. Doug will be laid to rest privately at the convenience of the family at Belleview Bottoms Cemetery, Burlington, KY.
