Obituary of Mary Louise Jennings Cross
Mary Louise (Jennings) Cross, 99, of Piner, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. She was born January 1, 1923, to John and Myrtle (Baker) Jennings.
Mary was a person of strong faith, baptized at St. Mary’s Church and became a lifetime member of St. Mary’s / St. Matthew’s Church, Morning View, Kentucky. She was a proud graduate of Simon Kenton High School, Class of 1941.
During WWII, she and her mother traveled by train to Hot Springs, Arkansas, where she married the love of her life, Charles Leo Cross, on April 11, 1942. When Charlie was sent to Coral Gables, Florida, she joined him there and that is where Madeline and Lynn were both born at the Biltmore Hotel which had been converted to a hospital for the duration of the war.
She was employed for many years at the Korner Market, under various employers. She enjoyed working and soon knew and became friends of everyone who shopped there. Upon retiring, she enjoyed reading, watching TV and spending time with her family.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charlie Cross, son Anthony Lynn Cross, daughter Rhonda Ann Cross, as well as her siblings John Henry Jennings, Irene Rust, Anna Lee Daugherty and Katherine Young.
Those left to carry on her legacy are her daughter Madeline Ledford; grandchildren Nicole McMillan, Dion (Kerry Ryan) Cross, Leah (Scott) Ross and Aaron (Molly Wheeldon) Cross; great-grandchildren Riley Cross, Aubrey Masters, Kyli Masters, Allie Ross, Kaitlyn Trenkamp, Brady Brophy and Maddison Brophy; great-great-grandchildren Daxton, Weston, Bentley and Baylor. Also, many nieces and nephews who have been always ready to visit and able to lend a helping hand when needed.
Visitation will be held between 11 AM and 1 PM on Wednesday, October 26th with the funeral mass to immediately follow at 1 PM at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. Mary will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Villa Madonna Montessori, 2402 Amsterdam Road, Villa Hills, KY 41017, or to St. Anne Province Center, 5300 St. Anne Drive, Melbourne, KY 41059.
