Obituary of Roy "Corky" Collins Gibson
Roy “Corky” Collins Gibson, age 80, Independence, KY, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, KY. He was retired from General Motors, with over 35 years of service, was a member of GracePointe Church of the Nazarene in Erlanger, KY and a member of #109 Masonic Lodge in Covington, KY.
After retiring from General Motors, Roy went on to be a school bus driver for Erlanger and Beechwood school districts. Roy enjoyed singing, playing guitar, taking care of his yard and most importantly spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, pawpaw and great friend to so many who knew him. Roy will be missed beyond measure and will be remembered for his friendly smile that would light up a room.
His parents, Willie and Hazel Dell Gibson, and brother, Robert J. Gibson, all preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Geneva C. Webster Gibson; daughters, Lisa Johnston (David) of Alexandria, KY and Tracy Jankowski (Michael) of Noblesville, IN; brother, Johnny Gibson of Owenton, KY; grandchildren, Derrick Hurtt, Kristen Griffith (Nate), Ben Johnston, Zach Jankowski, and Luke Jankowski; and three great grandchildren, Collin Hurtt, Chloe Hurtt, and Isabella “Izzy” Griffith.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 5, 2022, 10:00 AM. to 12:00 PM. at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM. Roy will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Cemetery 5336 Old Taylor Mill Road, Covington, KY 41015.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Roy’s name to GracePointe Community Church of the Nazarene 1438 Cox Ave, Erlanger, KY 41018 or to the Independence Senior Center 2001 Jackwoods Pkwy, Independence, KY 41051.
