we lost the greatest woman I've ever known. My grandmother was 96 yrs old and was a fighter.
She was born in 1926 Harlan, KY, raised 8 kids and had her own business in the 80's making her own porcelain dolls and other crafts.
She went thru the death of her husband Billy after 45 yrs together, the death of 4 of her children, having a stroke, survived breast cancer, mastectomy, diverticulitis, broke back and recently broke 2 bones in her neck.
I get my crafting skills from her and the love of making things. Loved her old ways and the words she would use such as she wanted to go "trading" (going to the store) and winder (window) and holler.. LOL
When I lived back home in KY I would visit her every Saturday and we would make what ever crafts she was working on at the time, looked thru magazines and just talked about crafting and looked at old pictures. Then once I moved to NC I would call her every Saturday up until the damn Covid hit and she had to go to a nursing home, then the calls were far and few....
She had 8 kids, 24 grandkids and 100+ great/great great grandkids! She had nick names for most of us and the boyfriends and husbands were called "That Man" LOL I am going to miss hearing her voice and calling me Shorty....
My heart is broken and I will miss this dear lady very much! She was my rock, my heart & my soul...
At least she is now out of pain and with grandpa Billy and with Uncle Jack & Dusty and Aunt Shirley and Sue...
LOVE & MISS YOU Charlotte Burke Helton
