Cathy was an amazing person with a truly wonderful life to celebrate! The people that were lucky enough to know her always benefited from her positive energy and enthusiasm in whatever she was doing - sports, learning or just talking with a friend. Cathy always spoke kindly towards others and made everyone feel like anything is possible.
Cathy always spoke so lovingly about her family and was so proud of each of her children. I understand this as I was fortunate enough to get to know each child when teaching them to play the piano. They were great students and had that same positive attitude shared by their Mom and Dad.
Our four sons adored Mrs. Barwell at Taylor Mill Elementary. She was fun and had a great approach to learning.
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this sad time. But our hope that you will find peace in sharing your memories and wonderful stories so others can know Cathy and how special she was to everyone that knew her.

I met Cathy when our daughter became friends with Courtney in the first grade As a young mother of four beautiful children Cathy was busy all the time. It never seemed to be too much for her to handle. Always a smile. John and my husband coached the little girls when they first played basketball. I’ll never forget the way John would yell DEFENSE with his cute little accent. I have years of memories with the Barwell family. I’ve watched her family grow into the wonderful adults they are. I’m so saddened by the loss of my dear friend Cathy. Courtney and Molly along with the group of girls that went threw Taylor mill elementary. The opening of Woodland middle school. Chris with his luminous white hair and sweet smile. Casey was such a nice young man. A Craig was still a baby when I met him. I loved Cathy and always enjoyed any chance to see her. Love and prayers to you all.

Mrs. Barwell was my 5th guidance counselor at Latonia Elementary(1995). When my grandfather passed away, she pulled me from class and drove me to the hospital to be with my family. I'll never forget the drive and how she made death seem not so final or scary. She walked me right to the room, holding my hand the entire way. She said "this is only a see you later, he will be waiting for you in heaven with God." She was a kind soul and I have no doubt she will be waiting for all of us in heaven too.

So sorry to learn of this loss. I met Cathy when we were on staff at Summit View Middle School. She was a champion listener to students and supportive colleague. I had big shoes to fill when she took her job as Principal at Ryland. Family, thank you for sharing her with us. I know she will be missed.

I had Cathy back in elementary school she was the sweetest lady in the world I remember I gave her an I cube paper holder I believe for Christmas one year .Several years later when my daughter was in Ryland elementary I went to speak to the principal and noticed that same ice cube and a few seconds later in walked Cathy. I was so happy to see her and she did a double take and remember me got a big hug from her and that contagious smile. She was such an amazing woman with a heart of gold.my thoughts and prayers go to her family.

I first met Ms. Barwell back when I was just starting out in elementary school. Her kind, caring nature was matched only but her radiant, positive attitude. As a young kid trying to navigate their way through those early stages in life, having a presence like hers in our lives on a daily basis truly made a difference.

I am so sorry to hear of Cathy's passing. I have many fond memories of her while we attended Grace Church together. She was always so willing to help out when needed, whether it be for church bible school or some other more menial job. She also babysat for our family, adding even more kids to the Barwell clan, if even for a few hours. Rest in peace Cathy.

Cathy was one of my heroes. I first met her as a counselor many years ago, and was immediately drawn to her warmth, intelligence, leadership skills and passion for helping children. I’m a bus driver for KCSD. I drove bus 165 which became 34 then 193 today. Ms. Barwell treated us bus drivers like royalty. If there ever was a problem with kids on our bus, she took care of it, quickly. Whenever she hosted a driver appreciation breakfast we always were treated to her homemade biscuits n gravy, it was delicious. She also gave us very nice Xmas gifts. She was an awesome principal, but most of all she became a dear friend. May God’s infinite grace and mercy be with her family during this time. Our loss is heaven’s great gain.

Heaven has surely gained a special angel. She was one of a kind in so many ways. I always loved seeing her and experiencing her enthusiasm and love for everyone around her. The world would be a much better place with more Mrs. Barwells in it. The Niece Family: Kelly, Susan, Allyson, Kelly, Kyle and Kaelly were deeply saddened to hear of her passing yesterday. Mrs. Barwell had a tremendous hand in helping to raise Ally and Kell Kell to be the awesome kiddos they have grown up to be and we are truly blessed. She was incredible. Those of us who were blessed enough to have been a part of the Ryland Heights family have now gained an angel in heaven to watch over us. She loved each and every student who walked through her doors and had a way with making sure every single student knew they were important. She was truly a blessing! Many hugs, much love and lots of prayers to her husband, children and grandchildren who I know she loved so dearly. She will be with you every step of the way...until you meet again.
