Obituary of Seymour Markowitz
Seymour “Sy” Markowitz of Florence, KY, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Care Center in Edgewood, KY at the age of 84. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 22, 1937.
Sy proudly served his country in the United States Army for 21 years. In that time, Sy worked to become an LPN while caring for his family. He served during Operation Desert Storm and was the Chief Ward Master at Walter Reed Medical Center. Sy also served as a volunteer firefighter for the West Chester Fire Department. Sy was very proud of his service in the military and fire department, but was even more proud to call himself a patriot. The love he had for his fellow veterans and America was unparalleled.
Sy had a very strong faith and loved the Lord. He also enjoyed horses, bird watching and bowling at the Colerain Bowl. Sy had such a lively personality that while he was staying at Dominion Senior Living, he was voted as an honorary member of their team. Sy’s greatest joy, however, came from spending time with his beloved family who he cherished deeply. Sy’s family motto was “A Markowitz Never Quits.” This will be carried on for generations as an accompaniment to his tremendous legacy.
Sy is preceded in death by his parents; foster mother; two sisters; three brothers; two foster brothers and several aunts. Those left here to mourn his loss and carry on that legacy include daughters, Stacie (Chuck) Rigney and Randi (Frank) DiBartolo; mother of his children, Marge Markowitz; grandchildren, Jesse (Morgan) DiBartolo, Rachel (John) Jonas, Josh (Jenn) Rigney and Jason (Ashley) Rigney; great-grandchildren, Nicolo, Scott, Olivia, Reagan, Lilly and Nora; nephew, Richard Markowitz and many other friends who will miss him beyond measure.
A visitation celebrating Sy’s life will be held from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 8461 Dixie Highway, Florence, KY 40142. A funeral service will immediately follow at 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Pastor Dan Ison will preside over the service. Sy will then be buried with full military honors at 2:00 PM the following day, Monday, January 31, 2022 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North, 205 Eibeck Lane, Williamstown, KY 41097.
