Obituary of Wanda Lafern Yates

Wanda Lafern (Girdler) Yates, age 88, of Independence, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.

She was born on April 13, 1930 to the late Chester and Liddie (Hines) in Pulaski, KY.

Wanda worked for the Kenton County Board of Education as a cook and custodian for many years and was also a devoted member of Grace Baptist Church. She enjoyed crafting including quilting and crocheting and worshiping with her church family.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents; first and second husbands, Melvin Utley and Murphy Yates; brothers, Denny Girdler, Merl Girdler, Carl Girdler and Vertress Girdler; sisters, Maude Childers and Rieny Phelps and her son, Douglas Utley.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Fran Moore and Sharon Greene; 3 beloved grandchildren and 5 doting great-grandchildren.

A visitation for Wanda will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 10AM until 12PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Florence. The funeral service will begin at 12PM, also at the funeral home.

Interment will immediately follow at New Bethel Cemetery in Verona.
