Obituary of Dennis R. Glacken
Dennis R. Glacken, age 85, of Independence, KY, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, at Emerald Trace Care Center in Elsmere, KY.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and proud, retired Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, where he served over 20 years and was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal, the Knights of the Blue Nose Award, and the Air Force Commendation Medal (Second Oak Leaf Cluster). Dennis was a very active veteran’s volunteer after retirement and was instrumental in the creation of the City of Walton’s Veterans Memorial, the development of Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery North in Williamstown, the Chambers and Grubbs Walton Verona Veteran of Merit Award, and assisting local veterans in getting help to secure benefits. His lasting legacy was to help others and advance the cause of KY Veterans.
Not only was Dennis a proud veteran, but also a proud Kentuckian and proud of his Walton Verona “roots”. Previously, Dennis served as the Superintendent of Big Bone State Park, Manager of Kentucky Fried Chicken and Manager of Mr. Gatti’s. He was also a long-time member of Piner Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife (of 64 years), Jean Oliver Glacken; daughters, Donna Daniels (Mike), Julia Faehr (Roy), and Karen Hills (David); sister, Ruth Glenn Meadows; seven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. His grandson, Tim Daniels and brothers, Howard and Garnal Glacken preceded him in death.
