Becky and Bridgit, Tim and I are heartbroken for your loss. CJ's passing is all our loss, as he was one of the most wonderful men I have ever known. His sense of humor was one-of-a-kind, and he has inspired and changed too many lives to count. We miss him terribly, and we are here for you if you need us.

Becky and Bridget, you will not know me, but I am so saddened to hear of your loss. In the fall of 1996, I had the privilege to be on CJ's teaching team at TMS. I was a student teacher with Rod Pierce, and CJ befriended me quickly. We bonded over going to college in Michigan, having been college athletes, teaching alongside old guys like Rod and Big G, and just having fun together teaching kids. I remember golfing a few times with CJ, Rod, and Big G. Such a great time. CJ's laugh and joy for life was infectious. He had that rare quality to love people well, to accept people as they were, and help them be better. Even though I haven't seen him in years I miss him. My prayers are with you both.

Heaven will be a bit brighter with CJ’s light. All of the lives he touched in the classroom, the field, and in his everyday life will carry his story and keep him in our hearts. As long as we can share our CJ memories, he will live on in us. Prayers and my deepest sympathies are with his family during these most difficult of days.

I was so saddened to hear this. I knew CJ from high school and he was just the sweetest, kindest guy. Always happy and did what he could to make everyone laugh. Always smiling. My deepest condolences to his family. May you find strength in this difficult time. Hopefully you can take some amount of comfort in your memories of him and knowing what a wonderful impression he left on so many that knew him.

The memories of CJ, Big G, and me from the old Twenhofel building (when the staff was more family than coworkers) are thick like fog on a fall morning. We had THE best team in the history of TMS. We played jokes on each other like taking out one of CJ's DVD/VCR tapes and inserting some random video while the kids went along with it until CJ would notice and yell out, "Pierce/BigG!" We Saran wrapped cars, stole things from each other's rooms that we knew were going to be used, golfed together (CJ was the best golfer I have ever met,and that is a HUGE compliment coming from an "elite" golfer like me), had dinners together with our spouses and families, and the list goes on and on. The students saw how much we loved our jobs and each other, and they responded accordingly. One of my favorite memories was one spring when a student wanted to run a match race with me, so we decided on a 400 meter race. That was only fair with my increasing age and decreasing speed. I knew what would happen. He would not be able to resist going out really fast to bury me, and then he would hit the wall and his race would fall apart. CJ decided he needed to be there too at SK's track along with a few students who also decided that they did not want to miss me being stomped by their classmate. The race began, and as expected, my student took off like a world class sprinter leaving me 20 meters back going into the back straight. THEN, it happened...he felt the entire bear family jump on his shoulders and he began slowing big time. I closed the gap pretty quickly going into the last curve, but what was so funny was hearing CJ's loud, gut level laugh across the track. It almost caused me to fall because I heard it so clearly. I came into the last 100 meters and saw CJ waitng at the line with a huge smile on his face laughing uncontrollably. When I finished, I waited for my student to finish, and we all had a good laugh. I told my student that I would let everyone know that it was a tie, but Mr. Connelly knew better. I guess I can still hear that laugh even now.
