Obituary of Rebecca Wood

Rebecca "Becky" Evelyn McDonald Wood, 72, of Florence, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at her home. She spent her life serving others. Becky was a volunteer with the Women's Crisis Center for years and later became a court advocate for Boone Co. aiding sexual assault victims. She was a member of the NKY/KY Mental Health Board of Directors, The Governor Advisory Council on Social Insurance, The Boone Co. Animal Shelter Board of Directors, and the Boone Co. "Friends of Shelter." She was cofounder of the Boone Co. Coalition Against Domestic Violence, served on the "CASA" Board of Directors, and founded the "Pet Protection Program" through the Women's Crisis Center. Becky was the 1989 spokesperson for the United Way Campaign and recipient of the Boone Co. Jaycees Ruth Baker Hunt Humanitarian Award. She was very active in Grace Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School and was involved in the church vestry, church camp retreats, and writing the church newsletter. In 2005, she was appointed secretary for the Episcopalian Churchwomen for the Diocese of Lexington. Becky was the first female volunteer firefighter for the City of Florence, and just recently was named to the Lloyd Memorial High School Alumni Hall of Fame.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Lee Wood. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Chester S. "Dick" Wood; daughter, Sharon (Marty) Lenhof of Elsmere; son, Michael T. (Melanie) Wood of Burlington; grandchildren, Rebecca Smith, Chloe Wood, Nathan Bingham, and LeeAnne Bingham; one great-grandchild, Rhys Hendry.
Visitation will be Friday, April 8th, 2011 from 10am until the time of service, 12 NOON, at Grace Episcopal Church, 7111 Price Pike Florence, KY 41042. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be directed to Grace Episcopal Church, P.O.
