Obituary of Edward Berkemeier

WALTON - Edward A. Berkemeier, Jr., age 86, of Walton, died Saturday, September 12th at his residence. Mr. Berkemeier was a retired Electrician Forman for Veterans' Hospital in Cincinnati and a retired Command Sergeant Major (after 40 years in 1983) in the U.S. Army (WWII). He was a member of All Saints Church in Walton and served as a lector and in other capacities for years, as well as was a member of the Knights of Columbus and had served as Grand Knight. Mr. Berkemeier also formerly served as Fire Chief of the Walton Volunteer Fire Department, was the first registered E.M.T. in Boone County and the 75th registered E.M.T. in the state of KY. He was very handy mechanically and encouraged recycling. He is survived by his wife (61 years), Mary Meiman Berkemeier of Walton; sons, Tony Berkemeier of Indianapolis, IN, Charles Berkemeier of Union, KY, Dave Berkemeier of Edgewood, KY, and Mike Berkemeier of Walton; daughters, Darlene Ryan of Walton and Rita Dixon of Candler, NC; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 16, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, at All Saints Church at 62 Needmore St., Walton, KY 41094. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the church at 12 noon. Interment will be at Mother of God Cemetery in Latonia, KY.
