Obituary of Ernest Bates

Ernest M. Bates, age 76, of Independence, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood. He was a Custodian for Wal-mart, a member of Community Family Church in Independence, and a U.S. Marine Veteran. Mr. Bates enjoyed fishing and spending time at home. Survivors include his wife, Edna Evelyn Bates; daughter, Cathy Bates of Covington; son, Jimmy Bates of Covington; step-daughters, Judy Hensley, Teresa Spare, and Donna Kenwright, all of Independence; step-sons, Henry Ridner of Union and Carl Hutchinson of Florence; brothers, Winford and Thomas Bates of Independence, and Gene Bates of FL; and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Chambers & Grubbs in Independence. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon at the funeral home. Interment will be at KY Veterans Cemetery in Williamstown. Memorial donations may be made to the Bates Family, c/o Chambers & Grubbs, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051.
