Zona Forrest King, age 77 of Anderson Township, formerly of Independence,Ky. passed on Thursday, December 6, 2012. She was a retired Prevention Specialist for the Alcohol Counsel of Cincinnati. Zona was a 1953 graduate of Holmes High School, attended University of Cincinnati and was an honor student at Northern Ky. University where she received her certification in Ohio and Ky., as a Prevention Specialist(to reduce substance abuse). She served on the board of Welcome House, Alcoholism Council of Cinti., Governor's appointments to Underground Petroleum Storage Commission, Kentucky Colonel, Outstanding Crime Prevention Volunteer, 1996, years of community service, Office Manager, AOD Council 1990-1994, IRS Service Center, 1971-1990, member of the D.A.R., Cynthiana Chapter. She was the first woman to be named Independence Citizen of the year in 1998, a history buff, Zona's ancestors settled near Cynthiana, Ky, circa 1790. She is preceded in death by her partner, Paul Grunwaldt; parents, Forrest and Lora King; brothers, Teddy Wayne King and Guy Paul King.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Snowden of New Richmond, OH; son, Stephen Floyd of Dayton, OH; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home of Independence. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 pm with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will take place in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry, KY.
