Obituary of Fred Lilienthal

     Alfred Joseph Lilienthal of Brandon, FL, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the age of 93. He was born in Vienna, Austria on January 8, 1929 to the late Richard and Leopoldine Lilienthal. Alfred earned a Doctorate of Ministry degree and was a veteran having proudly served in the United States Army. He retired after working many years as a Machine Tool Designer, College Professor, and Pastor. Alfred is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University, DePaul University  & Chicago Theological Seminary. He served the Church of the Nazarene with his wife of 73 years, Aileen, in many capacities -- primarily as a College Professor at Olivet Nazarene University (and Coach of the ONU soccer team for a while) & as Minister / Pastor at the Lauderdale Manor Church of the Nazarene, Ft. Lauderdale, FL & as a supply / interim Minister and Chaplin at many churches and some hospitals throughout his life. He also served as the Dean of The European Nazarene Bible College in Büsingen, Germany for several years. Alfred regularly & routinely went above and beyond the call of duty for his students, parishioners & community in too many ways to summarize briefly. He was loved by many and he loved everyone with a cheerful heart and a willingness to serve. Dr. Alfred Lilienthal, husband, father, solider, professor, pastor and more will be greatly missed. When, those who knew him, look back on Alfred’s life, there is a universal consensus of having witnessed and being touched by a life truly dedicated to God and helping people. He nearly always carried a smile and a grateful heart.

     In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Herbert Lilienthal; and half-brothers Kurt Lilienthal and Otto Lilienthal.

     Survivors include his loving wife, Aileen Hensley Lilienthal; children, Alfred Joseph Lilienthal, Jr., Kathi Ann Lilienthal Stewart, Jeffrey Charles Lilienthal, and Heidi Lilienthal; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; as well as many other extended relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.

     A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 45 N. Main St. Walton, KY 41094. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM. Immediately following the service, Fred will be laid to rest at New Bethel Cemetery in Verona, KY.
