Obituary of George Phelps Broaddus

George Phelps Broaddus of Independence, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024, at his home, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Richmond, KY on May 16, 1940, to the late Stanley and Charlotte (Simpson) Broaddus. Phil proudly served his country and retired from the United States Airforce as a Tech Sargent and then served in the civil service. He was a member and deacon of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending his free time riding his motorcycle, reading, and listening to good music. He was one of the founding members of the Oak Ridge Riders, a Christian motorcycle group. He also loved spending time with his family and traveling with his beloved wife. Phil was a faithful man whose patience and kindness will be missed dearly by those who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Sandra Broaddus; children, Karen Payne, Dean (Tina) Broaddus, and Kim (Clay) Campbell; beloved grandchildren, Erica Waddell, Brian (Leslie) Routzon, Joshua (Brielle) Broaddus, Jordan (Emma) Broaddus, Jonathan (Nikki) Campbell, Corey Payne, Kristin (Taylor) Huntley, and Seth Campbell; great-grandchildren, Devon, Nichole, Colin, Ethan, Dakota, Lona Beth, Lily, Baylin, Willow, Presley, Graham, Malcolm, Jackson, Gracie, and Campbell; as well as other friends and relatives who will cherish his memory.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, David Broaddus.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 6056 Taylor Mill Rd. Covington, KY 41015. Immediately following the service, Phil will be laid to rest at Mother of God Cemetery in Latonia, KY where full military honors will be rendered. Memorial donations can be made in his name to Oak Ridge Baptist church or to Smile Train, P.O. Box 96231 Washington DC 20090.
