Obituary of Ben F. Harney

Ben F. Harney, 76, of Independence, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired lieutenant from the Kentucky State Police, a Navy veteran, and a member of the FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute Alumni Association, Fraternal Order of Police, Kentucky Law Enforcement Council, Colonel Clay Masonic Lodge, and the Scottish Rite. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Franxman Harney; a son, Tim Harney of Independence; daughters, Karen Barnett of Edgewood and Kathy Schildroth of Hebron; brothers, Phillip Harney of Williamstown and Mike Harney of Wilmington, Ohio; sisters, Sonia Finnell of Hebron and Shirley Robinson of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; and two grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
