Obituary of Wilfrid Nicholas Scherder

Wilfrid Nicholas Scherder, 75, of Independence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired brakeman with the L&N and CSX railroads, a member of St. Cecilia Church in Independence and VFW Post No. 1095. He was a former Independence volunteer firefighter and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie O'Neal; a daughter, Diane Warren of Walton; sons, John Scherder and Jeffrey Scherder, both of Independence; sisters, Helen Bach of Morning View, Evelyn Bach and Loretta Placke, both of Independence; a brother, Carl Scherder of Independence; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Cecilia Church, Independence. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Independence.
Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
