Obituary of Brandon Keith Prather

Brandon Keith Prather, 33, of Walton, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 14, 2026, at his residence. He was born on May 23, 1993, in Edgewood, Kentucky, and was a graduate of Owen County High School. Brandon pursued a career in the banking industry and worked for Citi Bank as a KYC Operations Analyst, where he worked in financial crimes and fraud protection, helping protect clients and their financial well-being.

Brandon enjoyed hunting with his brother, Shawn, gaming on his PC, using his 3D printer, collecting guns, and learning about the many fascinating mushrooms found throughout the world. A history buff, Brandon had a particular interest in the eras of World War I and World War II. Brandon also liked listening to music and enjoyed many different artists, from The Beatles and Pink Floyd to Shania Twain. If you saw Brandon out and about, there was a good chance he was wearing one of his favorite tie-dye shirts, especially those made by Liquid Blue.

Above all else, Brandon loved his family. He shared a special connection with his grandmother, Mary, who passed away when Brandon was just five years old, and he held a particularly special place in his heart for his nephew, Brantley. Brandon will be remembered for the countless "counseling" sessions he offered to his family. He always had an open door and a listening ear for anyone who needed someone to talk to.

Brandon’s legacy will continue through his mother, Rita Prather (Doug Newton); his brother, Shawn Prather (Kaitlin Martin); his step-siblings, Amber, Sue, and Doug Jr.; his aunts, Charlotte Wilson and Donna (Brian “Uncle B”) Lynam; his uncle, Paul Wilson; his nephews, Brantley, Briar, Elijah, Micah, Donovan, and Daniel; his cousins, Greg, Daryl (Sapphire), Kristy, Chris, and Ashley; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish his memory. He is also survived by his father, David Prather.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Mary Bolton, and Susie Newton; his uncle, Rusty Prather; his nephew, Dylan Scott; his best friend, Brian Chandler; his family friend, Will Burch; and several other grandparents and cousins who had gone too soon.

A visitation will be held for Brandon between 1 PM and 4 PM with his funeral service beginning at 4 PM on Thursday, August 20^th at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 45 N. Main St. Walton, KY 41094. Brandon will be laid to rest at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Verona, KY.
