Obituary of Shirley Ann Sneed Collins
Shirley Ann Sneed Collins, age 83, of Independence, KY, passed away Saturday morning, June 15, 2024, at her son’s residence in Corinth, KY. She was a homemaker and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Independence. Shirley lived to take care of others, especially her family. As a homemaker and caregiver, she never truly retired. Her greatest joy was to be a wife and mother, roles that she cherished and fulfilled beautifully. Loving and caring for her family and those around her was paramount in Shirley’s life. She was a kind and compassionate person who consistently thought of others before herself. During family functions, she was always the very last to sit down to enjoy a meal with those she loved. A prolific canner and a frugal model of self-reliance; meals were very often from Shirley’s own garden.
Her husband Bill Collins, parents, Bailey Thomas and Kathryn Bernice Lewis Sneed, and siblings, Betty Lou Anderson, Marvin Thomas, and Jerry Lewis preceded her in death. She is survived by her beloved sons, Donald Collins (Sunny), Doug Collins (Pam), Daryl Collins (Tony), and Darin Collins (Anna); grandchildren, Michael Collins (Stephanie); Billy Collins (Andrew); Bradley Collins (Stephanie), Allison Haskett (Cory), James Collins (Courtney), John Collins (Sarah), Emily Blevins (Matthew), Gregory Collins (Autumn), and Ryan Collins; and fifteen great grandchildren. Visitation for Shirley will be Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with her funeral service beginning at noon at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. Her interment will be at Independence Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 11969 Taylor Mill Rd., Independence, KY 41051 or Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 3575 Sweet Owen Rd., Owenton, KY 40359.
